At the end of their life, an Avocado mattress makes less impact on the waste stream. The organic materials we use can biodegrade and the steel innersprings can be recycled. Since no polyurethane foams and other toxic chemicals are used in the manufacturing, our impact on the waste stream and the environment is significantly reduced.

Check with your local recycling program to see if they offer mattress recycling. There are also a number of companies that will pick-up and recycle your mattress for a small fee. Earth911 has a great directory to find someone in your area.

How is a mattress recycled?

  1. In order to recycle a mattress, it is first cut open so you can separate the layers.
  2. Next, the layers are organized into piles according to type of material.
  3. Lastly, the natural materials can be upcycled for further use (for example, they can be shredded and used as insulation). The steel springs can be recycled at your local scrap yard and even earn you a few bucks, rates vary depending location.
