Creative Reuse or Upcycling

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse or creative recycling, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of beauty with higher value and greater environmental value.

The Difference Between Upcycling and Recycling

Upcycling is more energy efficient than recycling. Recycling takes waste products, breaks them down (destroying them), then forms them into something new. Upcycled products are never destroyed.

Why Upcycle?

Upcycled products conserve energy, as well as air, water and natural resources. It is one of many sustainability strategies we are starting to use to help close our loop on waste.

Upcycled Natural Latex in our Pillows

Our Avocado Green Pillow stuffing is made with natural latex rubber — upcycled from the excess eco-INSTITUT® certified natural latex that is discarded after cutting the latex foam to make our Green and Vegan mattress cores — and natural plant fiber from the Kapok tree. We "cross cut" the latex into noodle-like strips. The process is actually performed on-site in our Los Angeles factory.
