At Avocado, we craft our premium furniture with the same values that guide our mattresses — quality, sustainability, transparency, and long-lasting performance. Every piece is made from solid wood (never veneers) and finished with safe, premium coatings designed to protect, nourish, and highlight the material's natural beauty. This guide outlines the woods we use and the finishes applied across our furniture collections.

Wood Species Used in Avocado Furniture

We use three primary solid wood types across our collections (plus reclaimed wood). All are selected for durability, beauty, and responsible sourcing.

Alder / Beech (Blonde)

Walnut

Oak

  • A smooth, light-toned hardwood used primarily in:

    • City Bed Frame & Nightstand (in the Blonde finish)

    • Kids Bedroom Furniture

    • Zero Waste Furniture Collection

    • Select Bathroom Accessories

  • Sourced from
    North America.

  • Solid blonde alder/beech offers a clean, modern aesthetic and takes finish evenly, resulting in a soft, natural look.

  • A rich, dark hardwood prized for its depth, grain variation, and timeless character.

  • Sourced from
    North America.

  • Used for:

    • City Bed Frame & Nightstand (Walnut)

    • Adult Bed Frames & Furniture

  • All walnut pieces are made from solid walnut — no veneers — creating heirloom-quality pieces meant to last.

  • A strong, timeless hardwood known for its pronounced grain, exceptional durability, and natural character.

  • Sourced from
    North America.

  • Used in:

    • Adult Bed Frames & Furniture

  • Each solid oak piece showcases rich grain patterns, subtle tonal variation, and a naturally warm presence. Its strength and density make it ideal for long-lasting, heirloom-quality furniture, while our upgraded hand-rubbed finish brings out a beautiful, lustrous depth in the wood’s surface.

Note: We previously used an ECOS® spray clearcoat on some walnut pieces. We’ve since upgraded to a more labor-intensive, hand-rubbed finishing process using Walrus Oil®. This method brings walnut and oak to life with a more beautiful, lustrous, and elevated finish. All new furniture now ships with this upgraded finish.
