Yes. All Avocado mattresses are tested annually by an independent third-party laboratory and comply with federal flammability standards — without chemical flame retardants, chemical dips, synthetic fire socks, or synthetic flame retardant systems of any kind.

Two federal standards apply to mattresses sold in the United States:

  • 16 CFR Part 1633 — Open flame resistance. Tests the mattress against a large open flame source and measures heat release and char length.

  • 16 CFR Part 1632 — Smolder resistance. Tests ignition resistance by exposing the mattress surface to a lit cigarette in a draft-protected environment.

Avocado Green Mattress — 16 CFR Part 1633

The Avocado Green Mattress meets 16 CFR Part 1633 using only GOTS-certified organic wool and GOTS-certified organic cotton — both also certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I. No chemical flame retardants of any kind.
