Debating between an Avocado Green Mattress and a Casper® Wave Hybrid Mattress?
Avocado and Casper are hybrid mattresses, which means they combine layers of foam for comfort and pressure relief with innersprings for durable support. Both are highly rated. However, the Casper Wave Hybrid costs up to nearly $1,300 more than the Avocado organic mattress. Additional differences include:
The Avocado Green Mattress is certified organic in the GOTS Public Database, a program recognized by the National Organic Program of the USDA. It uses GOTS-certified organic materials — organic cotton, organic latex, and organic wool — rather than polyurethane foams, as Casper does. Avocado believes that organic-certified products and processes are better for customers, the people making the materials and finished products, and the environment.
Avocado uses organic certified wool to inhibit flammability and meet all safety standards naturally. Casper uses a knit sock of (FR) rayon yarn with a fiberglass core, blended with small amounts of polyester and modacrylic. Adhesives and flame retardants are significant contributors of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which pollute indoor air quality. For assurance, an Avocado Green Mattress is GREENGUARD Gold certified and verified as Formaldehyde Free by UL Environment®.
Avocado is a needle-tufted mattress. We use a traditional handwork process in which long steel needles are pulled through mattresses (in up to 24 spots) to hold the mattress together without using glue. It's a hallmark of a quality mattress. For mattresses that are not needle-tufted, manufacturers typically use adhesives to bind the cover to the interior and to bind the interior layers together over time.
Avocado uses one of the best innerspring units on the market, with seven zones and up to 1,459 individually wrapped innersprings that float independently in 3 gauges and two coil widths. In contrast, Casper uses only 812 innersprings without zones. Fewer springs mean less support, body contouring, and durability, plus greater motion transfer across the bed. Casper does, however, have three distinct zones within their polyurethane foam layers.
Avocado is the most sustainable mattress brand in the industry, with full organic certifications in our brand name. Avocado is also a Climate Neutral Certified company and the highest-scoring Certified B Corporation in the mattress industry. Our mattresses are also all MADE SAFE® certified.
Both mattresses are endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association. However, Avocado is more supportive with a medium-firm feel, while Casper is rated as soft, according to Consumer Reports®.
Avocado uses natural materials with natural open-cell structures and temperature-regulating properties that do not absorb or trap body heat. Since memory foam tends to trap heat, Casper uses phase changing gel pods to promote cooling.
Avocado has a 1-year trial, while Casper offers only 100 nights.
Avocado has a 25-year limited warranty, while Casper offers only 10 years.
Avocado makes its products and many of the source materials in Los Angeles, with more than 700,00 square feet of production and logistics space. Our factory has been making mattresses since 1987. (Avocado even makes our furniture.) In contrast, Casper subcontracts production.
