Debating between an Avocado Green Mattress and a Casper® Wave Hybrid Mattress?

Avocado and Casper are both hybrid mattresses, which means they combine layers of foam for comfort and pressure relief with innersprings for durable support. Both are highly rated. However, the Casper Wave Hybrid costs up nearly $1,300 more than Avocado organic mattress. Additional differences include:

  1. The Avocado Green Mattress is certified organic in the GOTS Public Database, a program recognized by the National Organic Program of the USDA. It uses GOTS organic certified materials — organic cotton, organic latex and organic wool — rather than polyurethane foams as Casper does. Avocado believes that organic certified products and processes are better for customers, better for the people that make the materials and finished products, and better for the environment.

  2. Avocado uses organic certified wool (from our own farms) to naturally inhibit flammability and meet all safety standards. Casper uses a knit sock made of (FR) rayon yarn with a fiberglass core, blended with small amounts of polyester and modacrylic. Adhesives and flame retardants are major contributors of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which pollute indoor air quality. For assurance, an Avocado Green Mattress is Greenguard Gold certified and verified as Formaldehyde Free by UL Environment®.

  3. Avocado is a needle-tufted mattress. We use a traditional handwork process in which long steel needles are pulled through a mattresses (in up to 32 spots) in order to hold the mattress together without using glue. It's a hallmark of a quality mattress. For mattresses that are not needle-tufted, manufacturers typically use adhesives to bind the cover to the interior and to bind the interior layers together over time.

  4. Avocado uses one of the best innerspring units on the market, with 7 zones and up to 1,414 pocketed innersprings that float independently, in 3 gauges and 2 coil widths. In contrast, Casper uses only 812 pocketed innersprings without zones. Fewer springs means less support, body contouring and durability, plus greater motion transfer across the bed. Casper does, however, have 3 distinct zones within their polyurethane foam layers.

  5. Avocado is the most sustainable mattress brand in the industry, supporting 100% renewable energy use, with full organic certifications in our brand name. Avocado is also a carbon negative business and the highest scoring Certified B Corporation in the mattress industry. Our mattresses are also all MADE SAFE certified.

  6. Both mattresses are endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association. However, Avocado is more supportive with a medium-firm feel, while Casper is rated as soft, according to Consumer Reports®.

  7. Avocado uses natural materials with natural open cell structures and temperature regulating properties that do not absorb or trap body heat. Since memory foam tends to trap heat, Casper uses phases gel pod to promote cooling.

  8. Avocado has a 1-year trial, while Casper offers only 100 nights.

  9. Avocado has a 25-year limited warranty, while Casper offers only 10 years.

  10. Avocado makes their own products, and many of the source materials, in Los Angeles, with more than 700,00 square feet of production and logistics space. Our factory has been making mattresses since 1987. (Avocado even makes our own furniture.) In contrast, Casper subcontracts production.
