Who Makes Avocado Mattresses?

Avocado mattresses are hand needle-tufted in our own GOTS-certified factory in Fullerton, California, using domestic and imported materials. Many DTC mattress brands don't manufacture their own products. Avocado does.

Who Makes Avocado Mattresses?

Avocado does. Every Avocado organic mattress is hand-needle-tufted by skilled bedmakers in our own GOTS-certified manufacturing facility in Fullerton, California — not by a contract manufacturer or a third-party factory shared with other brands.

That distinction matters more than it might seem. Many direct-to-consumer mattress brands are marketing and logistics operations: they design products, build websites, and manage customer relationships, but the mattresses themselves are made by contract manufacturers who produce for multiple brands simultaneously. Avocado is a bedmaker. We operate our own facilities, employ our own teams, and hold GOTS certification at the factory level — which means our manufacturing practices are independently audited, not self-reported.

Fullerton, California

Our Fullerton facility is where every Avocado organic mattress is made. Skilled bedmakers hand needle-tuft each mattress — a traditional technique that secures comfort layers with fabric ribbons and wool rosettes without chemical adhesives — and most of our solid hardwood furniture is built here as well, including the Zero Waste collection crafted entirely from Fullerton woodshop offcuts.

The facility is GOTS certified, which means the social and labor standards embedded in that certification — wages, working hours, freedom of association, worker safety — are independently audited annually, not self-assessed. It's the same team that, in January 2025, helped load donated mattresses directly into the cars of families displaced by the Los Angeles fires while continuing to fill every other customer order on schedule.

Tecate, Baja California

Our Tecate facility manufactures accessories, foundations, and our City Bed line. Every one of the 305 team members at Tecate is a direct Avocado employee — not a contract worker, not a staffing agency placement. The facility operates under the same GOTS certification standard as Fullerton, with the same independent auditing of labor and environmental practices.

Tecate operates under a shelter manufacturing arrangement — a structure common among foreign companies manufacturing in Mexico, in which a third-party provider handles administrative, regulatory, and compliance infrastructure. Avocado maintains full operational control: hiring, training, production standards, and GOTS certification compliance. We disclose this structure because transparency about how and where products are made is part of what it means to be a certified B Corp.

Our People

As of January 2026, Avocado employs 698 people across manufacturing, retail, and corporate operations. 7.3% have been with Avocado for ten years or more — a retention figure that reflects what it means to work for a company where the mission is in the product you build with your hands every day.
