Can You Show Me Your GOLS Organic Latex Certification?
Yes — you can view our GOLS certificate and the products that use GOLS-certified organic latex. But before you do, it's worth understanding what GOLS actually certifies, and why it shouldn't be the last thing you check.
What GOLS Certifies
The Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certifies organic latex as a material. To achieve GOLS certification, a product must contain more than 95% certified organic raw material sourced from organic rubber plantations certified to USDA NOP or EU organic standards. The standard also sets permissible limits for harmful substances, emission requirements, and polymer and filler percentages. Transaction certificates at every stage of the supply chain ensure traceability from the plantation to the point of sale.
That is meaningful. It tells you the latex material itself has been independently verified as organic.
What GOLS Does Not Certify
GOLS is a latex standard. It certifies that a product's organic content meets the Global Organic Latex Standard — and it can be applied to finished products, including mattresses, as our own annex shows. It does not certify a mattress as organic across every material and every stage of production. GOLS scope is defined by the latex; GOTS scope is defined by the whole product.
This distinction matters because a GOLS certificate is not tied to volume. It does not establish how much certified latex a brand purchased or which products it used. That is why we publish our annex below — it names the specific products covered. Most brands showing you a GOLS logo will not.
The Only Way to Verify a Mattress Is Organic
If you want to know whether a finished mattress is certified organic, look for GOTS — the Global Organic Textile Standard — and verify the license number in the public database.
GOTS is the only standard that certifies a completed product as organic. It requires annual third-party audits of the entire supply chain, covers every material in the finished product, and lists certified products publicly by name. If a mattress doesn't have a GOTS finished-product certification, no other certificate can confirm it is organic.
A Note on Transparency
Displaying a GOLS logo and license number on a product page is not enough. A brand that holds GOLS certification should also be willing to show you the scope certificate — the document that lists which materials are covered and which facility produced them. If a brand won't share it, that's worth noting: it suggests they're not confident the sourcing relationship will hold up to scrutiny. But even sharing it isn't verification. A scope certificate tells you that a brand purchased certified latex. It doesn't tell you how much, in which products, whether it was used consistently across their line, or what is actually in their finished products. That's why it's a transparency signal, not a substitute for finished-product certification.
