What Is Talalay Latex?

Talalay latex is well-suited for some products because of its plush feel.

We start with Dunlop latex — the best material in the world for mattresses. We use GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex in every mattress we make, which is made with at least 95% organic certified raw materials.

Going Plusher with Talalay

When we set out to develop our Luxury Pillow, Luxury Mattress (Ultra Plush Box-Top version), Green Mattress (Plush Box-Top version), and Eco Toppers (Plush version), we wanted to offer customers a plusher feel than is possible to achieve with Dunlop latex. After testing, we found Talalay latex the ideal solution for plusher pillows, toppers, and mattresses. It has a different feel than Dunlop. Talalay is softer, with more cushion and slightly less bounce. Some customers say it feels similar to memory foam but without the sinking effect and trapped heat.

Because Talalay latex uses more processing chemicals and steps to achieve the plusher feel, Talalay is more expensive to produce and does not carry a GOLS (organic) or Made Safe® certification. However, the Talalay latex we use is eco-INSTITUT label certified and FSC® certified and used in products that are GREENGUARD Gold certified. And because our Talalay latex is FSC-certified, it meets the standard to be labeled as a GOTS-certified organic product. Every mattress made by Avocado is a GOTS-certified organic product.
