Single-Sided vs. Dual-Sided: Which Crib Mattress Is Right for You?
Every Avocado crib mattress gives your baby a firm, supportive sleep surface that is independently tested for infant safety. On our dual-sided mattresses, both sides are tested, so there is no unsafe side and no wrong way to use them. The difference between single-sided and dual-sided is how long one mattress can last with your child.
A single-sided crib mattress (our Eco Standard) has a single firm sleep surface and is used the same way throughout the crib years. It's our most affordable certified-organic option.
A dual-sided, or 2-stage, crib mattress is flippable, with a firmer infant side and a slightly softer toddler side. Because both sides meet infant-safe firmness standards, parents can't get it wrong: most start on the firmer infant side and flip to the softer side as their child moves into the toddler years, so one mattress carries them from infancy through the toddler stage without a second purchase. The Eco Dual-Sided, Organic Crib, and Luxury Crib all use this design.
