Every Avocado Mattress is handmade in California, using the same quantity of natural and organic materials appropriate for each mattress size. Our organic latex is precision cut and our innerspring units are made to exacting manufacturing standards. These core components have close to zero variation in size. However, subtle size variations — up to 2 inches smaller or larger — may appear when you first receive your mattress. This is normal.

Please note: In 90% of the instances, these size variations actually disappear within the first 30 days with regular usage, as the organic cotton covers gently give and the organic latex is allowed to expand naturally. That's why 30 days is required before requesting a replacement. Size discrepancies are not covered under warranty. Avocado must be notified of a size discrepancy within your trial period.

If you're still concerned about your mattress's variance, you can easily determine if it exceeds the 2-inch size variation by measuring it at home.

Here's how to properly measure your mattress.

Mattress Size

*To ensure your size measurement is accurate, always measure from the center of the mattress.

  1. Strip your mattress of all bedding.

  2. Using two people, place a tape measure at the top center of your mattress. Be sure the end of the tape measure is between the ticking on the outer edge and where the actual mattress begins.

  3. Measure from the top center of the mattress to the bottom center, ensuring the bottom edge of the tape measure is also between the ticking on the outer edge and the mattress.

  4. Repeat these steps to measure the mattress from left to right.

Mattress Height

*To ensure your height measurement is accurate, always measure from the center of the mattress, never the corners.

  1. Strip your mattress of all bedding.

  2. Place the edge of a tape measure in the middle of one side of the mattress, ensuring it is between the ticking on the bottom edge of the mattress and where the mattress starts.

  3. Measure from the bottom edge to the top edge, stopping where the ticking on the top edge starts.
