The lawsuit challenging the advertising claims of Avocado products was dismissed on August 11, 2023.

Rest assured, at Avocado, we take our environmental commitment seriously and proudly provide our customers with certified organic products. We accurately describe our products and their best-in-class attributes, including the following:

  1. We Use Certified Organic Materials: We use natural and GOTS-certified organic (CU 863637) materials whenever possible. We source the latex and wool used in our products from farms and processing facilities we co-own in India and Guatemala.

    1. Our latex foam has received certifications from Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), FSC®, and eco-INSTITUT® label.

The GOLS certification (CU 863637) ensures that our latex foam comes from organic sources and meets stringent organic criteria. Lab testing to eco-INSTITUT label standards ensures that our latex is made from 100% natural rubber and the finished foam is ≥95% certified organic latex, the highest possible standard. The remaining 5% represents the essential processing agents — required for any manufacturer to make latex foam suitable for use in mattresses and pillows — that are common to latex and that are permitted by organic standards and environmentally conscious manufacturing practices. Our GOLS certification covers organic raw materials, processing and manufacturing standards, and traceability requirements. View our GOLS certification.

The eco-INSTITUT label (119-34212-001) is the most respected laboratory-tested seal that confirms our latex foam is low in hazardous emissions and pollutants and tested for harmful substances. Thorough testing by eco-INSTITUT Germany GmbH ensures that our latex foam meets their requirements and is made with 100% natural rubber. We post our certification and test results in our Help Center.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification (C156318) ensures we meet their strict chain-of-custody requirements for natural latex responsibly sourced from sustainably managed rubber trees.

    2. Our finished mattresses and pillows have also received certifications from the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD Gold, and Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verification from UL.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. GOTS prohibits using a long list of chemicals commonly used in all stages of conventional textile production for environmental or toxicological reasons and is the world's highest organic standard, recognized by the USDA National Organic Program. Our mattresses and pillows are 100% GOTS-certified organic products listed on the GOTS public database.

Our OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification (924.HUS.86422) applies to the entire mattress. This means that every component of our organic mattress — from the threads to the latex foam — has been lab-tested for harmful levels of toxic substances, including PFAS. Avocado is one of the only innerspring mattresses to meet this lab-based safety standard for the whole product.

EWG Verified® is a mark of transparency and safety for mattresses. This gold standard ensures all ingredients and materials are publicly disclosed, prioritizing safer product components with lower-emitting volatile organic compounds. EWG Verified® mattresses are prohibited from using harmful chemicals, flame retardants, fiberglass, PVCs, and PFAS “forever” chemicals, reflecting a commitment to healthy sleep.

MADE SAFE is a third-party certification program that ensures our products are made with safe ingredients. This certification involves rigorous ingredient-level screening and analysis of reported ingredients to verify our products are free from more than 6,500 known harmful substances.

Additionally, our products have received the GREENGUARD Gold certification, which focuses on indoor air quality and low chemical emissions. This lab-based certification limits volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission levels and other potentially harmful chemicals, ensuring healthier indoor environments.

Avocado has also obtained the Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verification from UL, which confirms that our products do not contain formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing substances. This verification involves additional laboratory testing and assessment of our product's ingredients and manufacturing processes.

Avocado has performed comprehensive PFAS testing using Liquid Chromatographic/Tandem Mass Spectrometer (LC/MS/MS) analysis and/or Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, which revealed no detectable amounts (less than the detection limit) of PFAS in our products.

    3. We are a certified B Corporation and a 2022 "Best for the World” company, Climate Neutral Certified, a council member of the Organic Trade Association, and the inaugural “Pinnacle Award” winner for 1% for the Planet®.

  2. We Minimize Environmental Pollution: We avoid flame retardants, fiberglass, polyurethane foams, and other hazardous “off-gassing” chemicals that can affect human health or contribute to environmental pollution.

  3. We Follow Government Guidelines: We follow federally recognized standards for organic products produced and certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which are also in accordance with National Organic Program regulations. We also adhere to the marketing guidelines set by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Green Guides. Our marketing claims are clear, accurate, and substantiated.

  4. We Rely On Rigorous Testing Standards: We rely on rigorous and redundant lab testing for non-toxicity, emissions chamber testing for low environmental pollution, extensive ingredient screening, site audits, and chain-of-custody reporting for organic practices and materials — to ensure our products meet the highest purity, quality, and safety standards.
