Innerspring mattresses help you sleep better. According to a Kansas State University Institute of Environmental Research study, they sleep 28% cooler and are 26% more durable than foam mattresses. They also provide a better edge than foam, eliminating that roll-off feeling while delivering a more consistent sleep surface and reducing motion transfer.

At Avocado, we use the most advanced innerspring support unit available in our hybrid Luxury Plush, Green, and Vegan mattresses (our Latex Mattress and Vegan Latex Mattress do not use an innerspring unit). Our unit includes five zones encased in fabric so they function independently while offering specific firmness, density, and spring action for exceptional comfort and durability. The five zones include head, leg, torso, side edges, and top and bottom edges.

The pillow-top version of the Luxury Plush Mattress also includes a 2.4” micro-coil innerspring unit with up to 1,722 individually pocketed springs. This additional unit is the ultimate in body-hugging and contouring support. It’s softer than the standard version and all but eliminates rolling together (unless you want to), isolating motion from your partner’s movement.

Here’s a Breakdown of Our 5-Zone Support System:

  1. Side Edge Zones: You can sleep securely even on the far edges of our mattress with coils that prevent any feeling that you may roll off the bed.

  2. Top + Bottom Edge Zones: Most mattress companies either have a reinforced side edge or reinforced top and bottom edges. We do both. That’s so we create a more consistent sleep surface. Plus, if you sit on the edge of a bed that isn’t reinforced — like any memory foam mattress — you’ll slump off the mattress.

  3. Torso Zone: Our torso zone has fewer coils made with a more narrow gauge than what we have in our leg and head zones. The area provides optimal, comforting support for your hips.

  4. Leg Zone: Your back, shoulders, neck, and knees need more support. That’s why our leg and head zones, which are interchangeable (in fact, we encourage you to rotate your mattress for best results regularly), have more coils and thicker coils.

  5. Head Zone: Like the leg zone, our head zone has thicker coils — and more of them. That’s because supportive, medium-firm mattresses are better for our spines. If a mattress sags, sinks, or lumps up, it no longer contours to your body and doesn’t provide the support your back needs. Together, the design of our torso, leg, and head zones will help maintain the natural s-curve of your spine.
