Innerspring mattresses help you sleep better. According to a Kansas State University Institute of Environmental Research study, they sleep 28% cooler and are 26% more durable than foam mattresses. They also provide a better edge than foam, eliminating that roll-off feeling while delivering a more consistent sleep surface and reducing motion transfer.
At Avocado, we use the most advanced innerspring support unit available in our hybrid Luxury Plush, Green, and Vegan mattresses (our Latex Mattress does not use an innerspring unit). Our unit features seven ergonomic zones, each encased in fabric, that function independently to offer specific firmness, density, and spring action, providing exceptional comfort and durability. The seven zones include left perimeter, right perimeter, top perimeter, bottom perimeter, and 3 interior zones.
The pillow-top and box-top versions of the Luxury Plush Mattress also include a micro-coil innerspring unit with even more individually wrapped springs. This additional unit is the ultimate in body-hugging and contouring support. It’s softer than the standard version and eliminates rolling together (unless you want to), isolating motion from your partner’s movement.
Here’s a Breakdown of Our 7-zone Support System:
Left and Right Perimeter Zones: You can sleep securely even on the far edges of our mattress, thanks to coils that prevent any feeling of rolling off the bed.
Top + Bottom Perimeter Zones: Most mattress companies either have a reinforced side edge or reinforced top and bottom edges. We do both. That’s so we can create a more consistent sleep surface. Plus, if you sit on the edge of a bed that isn’t reinforced — like any memory foam mattress — you’ll slump off the mattress.
Torso Zone: Our torso zone features fewer coils, made with a narrower gauge, compared to the coils in our leg and head zones. The area provides optimal, comforting support for your hips.
Leg Zone: Your back, shoulders, neck, and knees need more support. That’s why our leg and head zones, which are interchangeable (in fact, we encourage you to rotate your mattress regularly for best results), have more and thicker coils.
Head Zone: Like the leg zone, our head zone has thicker coils — and more of them. That’s because supportive, medium-firm mattresses are better for our spines. If a mattress sags, sinks, or lumps up, it no longer contours to your body and doesn’t provide the support your back needs. Together, the design of our torso, leg, and head zones will help maintain the natural S-curve of your spine.
